The EMG 85-7 is one of the first EMG pickups to be introduced, and it's a modification of the popular EMG 81-7, but with a rounder, warmer tone. Utilizing narrow-aperture coils and Alnico V magnets, this 7-string humbucker delivers powerful tone with exceptional tone and versatility. The Alnico V magnets create a powerful growling tone and smooth lead tone that allows you to play a variety of genres from blues to extreme metal.
The EMG 85-7 is typically placed near the neck, where it delivers a mellow and rich tone. However, it also performs well in the bridge position, where it delivers a high level of sustain. This pickup works well with other EMG 7-string humbuckers and allows players to experiment with different setups.
