The EMG JH "HET" Set (Chrome) pickups were created at the request of legendary guitarist James Hetfield. In early 2009, he approached EMG's president, Robert Turner, asking for a set that would combine the brightness and power of passive pickups with the characteristic sound of active models that are popular among guitarists worldwide.
This set, designed in the stylish EMG MetalWorks finish, includes two pickups: JH-N for the neck position and JH-B for the bridge position. Both pickups were developed based on James Hetfield's experience, who has used similar technologies for thirty years, but in this case, an entirely new sound has been achieved.
The JH-N model is equipped with individual ceramic magnet cores and coils with a larger core, providing a stronger attack, increased volume, and a rounder sound in the neck position. The bridge model JH-B, in turn, also features an increased core but uses steel magnet cores instead of the rail magnets used in EMG81. This allows for a distinct, tight attack with lower inductance, resulting in a cleaner sound in the lower register.
