Introduced in 1985, the Warwick Thumb Bass instantly gained popularity in a variety of genres because of its clever design that suits all styles of playing. The ovangkol body has a special design that ergonomically adapts to the human body. The neck is also made of ovangkol and is securely bolted to the body. The frets are equipped with Warwick's proprietary Invisible Fretwork Technology (IFT) so their ends do not protrude beyond the edges of the wenge fingerboard's silky-smooth surface for maximum playing comfort.
A true active German bass needs formidable German electronics, so Warwick equipped the Thumb Bass with active J-style pickups and a preamp from MEC. The heavily shielded pickup design provides a powerful tone and allows for long cables without a hint of noise. The 2-way EQ let you quickly tweak your tone to perfection for any playing situation. A set of controls includes a volume control that acts as a bypass preamp, a Bass/Treble control, and a Balance control that lets you easily adjust the combination of the two pickups.
