Description

Fender is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its first solid body guitar with a very special model. Esquire's latest model is a charming homage with features reminiscent of that guitar. Fender guru Tim Shaw even created a single-coil bridge pickup to capture the true essence of the original. In the mid-1940s, Leo Fender worked to create a solid-body electric guitar that would not only be easy to mass-produce and repair, but also would not give guitarists a hassle to transport and maintain. Esquire entered the market in the early 1950s. There were problems – in particular, the twisting of the neck, since the neck did not have a truss rod. Only about 50 Esquires were produced before that model was replaced in October of that year by the Broadcaster, a two-pickup version that already had a truss rod.

Debuting in 1950, the Esquire was Fender's first practical electric guitar, featuring a pine body, bolt-on maple neck with 21 frets, and a redesigned bridge-mounted pickup. While having only one pickup might seem like a disadvantage, Esquire had a trick up its sleeve - an electronic system consisting of volume and tone controls, as well as a three-position switch that provided three different sounds. With a sleek single-cutaway silhouette, adjustable three-saddle bridge, and a single redesigned pickup in the bridge position, Esquire laid the foundation for all subsequent solid-body electric guitars and foreshadowed its more famous sister model, the Telecaster.

Esquire's 70th Anniversary Model is a fitting tribute to the groundbreaking design that helped shape the future of the solidbody electric guitar and the music it helped create. The Fender 70th Anniversary Esquire is a limited edition 2020 release, so get it while you can!
