The Friedman IR-X is a two-channel tube preamp in a compact enclosure, designed for use on a pedalboard. Equipped with two high-voltage 12AX7 tubes, this device offers a harmonically rich sound and tactile response characteristic of Dave Friedman's best designs. With a built-in cabinet and power amp simulation, the IR-X can deliver studio-quality sound directly to a DAW or mixer, making it ideal for recording and live performances. The device is straightforward to control, with no complex menus or instructions.
Unlike many other pedals that use tubes to add "warmth" to digital or solid-state circuits, the IR-X features a genuine tube core. Two independent channels with gain options provide four different sound profiles, accessible via a footswitch.
A unique feature of the IR-X is the ability to use impulse responses (IR) to simulate various cabinets. The device comes with 12 impulses, from which users can select their favorites or upload their own via the IR-X software editor for PC/Mac. This editor allows precise tone adjustments with "thump" and "presence" controls and saving presets in a 128-position memory.
The IR-X supports MIDI, enabling integration into complex control systems, including preset and channel management via computer. The effects loop makes it easy to add favorite effects to the signal chain.
The preamp features a TRS 1/4” input, TRS 1/4” balanced output, headphone output, standard 5-pin MIDI jack, and USB MIDI. The package includes a universal 12V power supply, USB cable, and power adapter. The device measures 139 x 165 x 58 mm and weighs 675 g.
