Craig Kallman is an avid music enthusiast and one of the recording industry’s true greats. He's been CEO of Atlantic Records, one of the world's biggest labels, since 2005. And since 2013, he's also been an official LEWITT endorser.
One of the secrets to his success is his passion for music, which first emerged when he began collecting records at a very young age. He went on to become one of Manhattan’s celebrated DJs as a teenager, and soon after graduating from Brown University he founded his own label, Big Beat Records. The early successes he scored caught the interest of Atlantic Records in 1991, which was quick to acquire Big Beat. Craig Kallman joined Atlantic as a Vice President of A&R and advanced to become Atlantic’s CEO in 2005.
Craig has now been at Atlantic Records for 22 years, and despite his executive position, he remains a constant presence in the label’s recording studios, supervising the creative work. The artists he’s discovered and signed himself have usually appeared in the Billboard charts shortly thereafter – with acts like Notorius B.I.G., P.O.D., Aaliyah, Brandy, Timbaland and Lil' Kim being followed later on by superstars including Bruno Mars, Sean Paul, Lupe Fiasco, Flo Rida, Paramore, B.o.B, Jason Mraz, Kid Rock, Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas, Trey Songz, Death Cab For Cutie, Missy Elliott, Wiz Khalifa, the Zac Brown Band, Gnarls Barkley, Cee Lo Green, Estelle, Skrillex and Janelle Monae.
Nearly as impressive as Craig’s ability to discover true gems, both polished and unpolished, is his record collection. By now, it's grown to become an unbelievable musical treasure trove numbering over 500,000 albums, most of which are stored in the same warehouse that Sotheby’s and Christie’s use for especially valuable works of art. He’s a very selective collector, only keeping 25,000 favorite albums at his Manhattan studio. But these favorites change constantly…
