Max Histibe, Ukrainian artist, sound designer, and visual director, shared with Arturia Ukraine the 10-year evolution of his sound using V Collection and MiniLab 3 instruments. From the analog heritage of legendary synthesizers to modern sound design with MiniLab 3 — discover how professional tools help shape a unique signature style and push the boundaries of creativity.
For over ten years, Arturia has remained an integral part of my creative process. During this time, I have worked as a music producer, composer, and sound designer on projects in electronic music, film, visual arts, and commercial sound design — including collaborating with Arturia itself on their virtual instruments.
For me, Arturia instruments are more than just plugins or MIDI controllers. They are an extension of thought that allows one to focus on the idea, emotion, and character of the sound.
Analog Heritage as a Creative Foundation

My approach to sound design has always been based on character rather than perfection. That is why Arturia's philosophy — with its attention to analog heritage combined with a modern vision — has become so close to me. Arturia V Collection recreates not only the sound of legendary instruments but also their behavior: instability, reaction to dynamics, and live modulation. This makes them especially valuable when working on sound design with emotional textures and modern electronics.
I perceive instruments like the Jup-8000, Buchla, CS-80, Prophet, Acid V, and the Augmented Series not as emulations, but as distinct creative characters, each with its own personality.
In professional sound design, the speed of transition from idea to result is crucial. V Collection allows for intuitive work without being distracted by technical limitations or the absence of live synthesizers. Therefore, I often use these tools to create moving textures, experimental effects, and hybrid sounds between music and noise. The modulation capabilities and flexible architecture of Arturia instruments stimulate experimentation and help find non-standard solutions — exactly what is needed in modern sound production.
MiniLab 3: A Compact Tool Without Compromise

Currently, the MiniLab 3 plays a special role in my setup. At first glance, it is just a compact MIDI keyboard, but in reality, it is a successful compact creative hub that allows me to work anywhere.
I often create music and sound in minimal conditions, and MiniLab 3 provides: direct physical control over parameters, a natural transition from idea to performance, and deep integration with Arturia instruments and beyond.
The adaptation of MiniLab 3 for working with NKS format plugins from Native Instruments and other manufacturers that support NKS and Komplete Kontrol allows for convenient parameter management without wasting time on manual mapping. Pre-configured knobs, parameter switches, and presets are available for them, which significantly speeds up the workflow. Particularly noteworthy is the new virtual instrument Swords to Ploughshares, created from the sounds of war. The knobs and keys become part of the performance rather than just a means of control. This allows one to "play" sound design just like any other musical instrument.
Instruments as a Language of Thought. On Uniqueness and Signature Style

Over the years, I have realized that true uniqueness appears when the instrument stops being a separate object and becomes the language of creativity. The Arturia ecosystem does not limit style and leaves room for individuality. Presets can be a great starting point, but they are never the final destination. A unique sound is born through experimentation, mistakes, and a deep understanding of the instrument.
Arturia V Collection and MiniLab 3 create ideal conditions for this process — they encourage searching for one's own path and forming a recognizable signature style.

5 PRACTICAL MUSIC PRODUCTION TIPS FROM HISTIBE
Start with Character, Not Presets
Choose a sound based on its emotional shade and potential for your track, not just by its name or a trendy tone.
Physical Control = Creativity
Use knobs and faders to "play" the sound rather than just programming it. This helps in finding unexpected textures and transitions.
Experiment with Modulations
Don't be afraid to combine non-standard modulation routings. Often the most interesting sounds appear as a result of experimentation.
Minimal Conditions Are Not a Limitation
Learn to create music even in a compact setup. MiniLab 3 allows you to work effectively even without a dream studio.
A Preset Is a Starting Point, Not the End
Use ready-made sounds as a foundation, but always add your own processing: change modulations, add dynamics, and layer effects. This helps in creating a unique signature.
