Today we celebrate National Flag Day. And tomorrow we will celebrate another important date - the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
Flag Day is a relatively new holiday. It was established by the decree of the second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma "On the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine" dated August 23, 2004. We set a weighty date in order to foster respect for citizens for the state symbols of Ukraine.
Under the blue-and-yellow flag, foreign guests are now welcomed in Ukraine, military personnel take an oath, Ukrainian embassies work, and it is displayed at the UN. Under the national flag, Ukrainian defenders are waging war against the Russian occupier. Three proclamations of Ukrainian statehood took place under it: 1917, 1941 and 1990; and three modern revolutions: "on granite" and both Maidan.
We are confident that after our blue and yellow flag has already returned to Chernihiv, Sumy, Irpin, Bucha, Makarov and Zmeiny Island, it will also return to Kherson, Melitopol, Mariupol, Sevastopol, Donetsk and Luhansk. Happy holiday to you!
Glory to Ukraine!
