The Electro-Voice PL-80A is a premium supercardioid dynamic microphone designed to elegantly capture the character of vocals in live audio. The PL80A's EQ-friendly sound contour adapts well to any vocal texture, allowing vocals to sit beautifully in the mix without harshness. The improved isolation provided by the supercardioid polar pattern provides excellent protection against system feedback and crosstalk from other nearby sound sources. The result is higher gain before feedback and a cleaner stage mix. Although the PL80A is designed as a vocal microphone for music and spoken word, it is also well suited for use as an instrument or amplifier microphone where a dynamic element capsule is desired. The PL80C is also available in a classic beige finish.
Like most directional microphones, the PL80A's low-frequency response varies depending on the distance from the sound source. Known as the "proximity effect", the low-frequency response of a microphone increases as the operating distance from the microphone decreases. This "bass boost" is only audible when operating closer than 6 inches. Using this microphone at a distance greater than 6 inches ensures minimal sound coloration due to proximity effects.
