The Elex MK4 is a high-performance stereo integrated amplifier designed for pure music reproduction. Housed in an all-new enclosure consistent with the rest of the Rega range, the MK4 builds on Rega's previous designs using an award-winning Class A/B power amplifier circuit that delivers an impressive 72W per channel into 8 ohms (90W into 6 ohms). The Elex MK4's new rear panel connectivity now includes a Rega DAC circuit with two digital inputs and a high-quality headphone output conveniently located on the front panel.
Elex MK4 is capable of driving complex speaker systems with ease and fits perfectly into any audio system thanks to its extensive connectivity options. In addition to line level, digital inputs and a high-quality phono stage, there are also Pre-out and Record Out functions, as well as a headphone output. Particular attention was paid to the selection of key audio components. The design uses discrete circuits, high quality relays, polypropylene capacitors and Sanken output transistors.
Amplification circuit
Rega engineers have redesigned the ELEX PCB to optimize performance. The MK4 builds on Rega's previous designs by using an award-winning Class A/B power amplifier circuit that delivers 72W per channel into 8 ohms. This power is provided by a silent multi-stage linear power supply, and the power rails of the digital and analog sections are galvanically isolated.
Digital Circuit/DAC
The DAC is based on a very successful Rega DAC-R circuit. The galvanically/optically isolated digital inputs utilize Wolfson's S/PDIF receive chip, delivering exceptional detail and clarity from any connected source. The output signal is provided by a Wolfson DAC and a Rega-designed discrete line driver circuit. Rega engineers made every effort to ensure that the analog part of the circuit was not affected in any way by the introduction of digital inputs.
MM phono stage
A high-performance integrated phono stage designed by Rega is neatly integrated into the circuitry. To minimize interference, the RIAA equalization is divided into two stages. Polyester capacitors are used in the signal path, and polypropylene are used in the RIAA equalization circuits.
Headphone output
Much attention has been paid to the presence of a headphone jack in the Elex MK4. It is configured so that speaker switching is handled by the output mute relay so as not to interfere with signal flow or reduce performance when not in use.
Individual housing
The new design and chassis construction brings the Elex MK4 in line with the rest of the Rega series, providing improved heat dissipation by using the entire chassis as an ultra-efficient heat sink.
Protection
The Elex MK4 features Thermal Cut-Out, Short Circuit Protection, and DC Protection features to prevent the risk of damage from overheating, excessive current, or short circuits.
