Among the inputs, there are 4 line and 4 phono stereo inputs on RCA connectors, a balanced combination XLR - 1/4" microphone input and an input on a TRS 1/4" connector for a second microphone. Also, the mixer has digital inputs for 1-4 channels and a digital master output.

Among the outputs, the mixer has a main stereo output on XLR connectors, a secondary on RCA connectors, as well as an output for recording the mix. Next to the outputs is the Return/Send section on TS 1/4" connectors for sending audio to external devices.

The mixer provides the ability to connect two different PC/Mac systems at the same time thanks to dual USB Type-B and USB Type-C ports (there are two of each type), allowing for seamless switching between DJs and easy back-to-back sets. In addition, thanks to the built-in Bluetooth® input port, it is possible to wirelessly include audio from other devices, such as smartphones, and use all the functions and effects of the mixer to change the sound. The Multi I/O section has an independent channel selector that allows external effects to be used separately from the Beat FX, giving the DJM-A9 a true send capability.

Convenient control

Control elements are located on the top panel and are conveniently grouped into separate sections. In the center is the control of 4 channels and the main master output, on the left are the controls for the microphone signals and the wireless Bluetooth connection, and on the right is the control panel for effects.

Each microphone input has a volume control and 2-band EQ, effects settings such as Echo, Pitch, Mega-Phone, Reverb and Talk-Over. +48 V phantom power is available for the first microphone input, enabling the connection of condenser microphones. The Bluetooth key allows you to wirelessly connect a device that supports this technology. The Sound Color FX section has 6 effects to choose from and an effect level.

Below is the first output for headphones with independent adjustment of the volume and ratio of the signal level of the listening channel and the master channel. A second output with similar controls is on the right, next to the effects panel.

Each channel has a volume control with the possibility of amplification up to +9 dB, the selection of the audio signal source, a 3-band equalizer. Below that is the Color knob for applying Sound Color FX. Two CUE keys on each channel and the master channel allow you to listen to the audio in headphones. Below is the volume fader and the choice of sending the signal to channel A, B or bypassing the crossfader.

For additional control, there are signal level indicators on channels 1-4 and on the master. Below the master channel section is the booth output volume control and 2-band EQ.

The effects control section has a small screen to display basic information, effect selection, tempo, frequency, and channel settings to apply the effect to, as well as time, effect depth, and effect on/off key controls.

Built-in effects processor

As for processing effects, the mixer has a built-in effects processor with a huge palette of programs for processing the audio signal. Effects include Sound Color FX (Space, Dub Echo, Sweep, Noise, Crush, Filter) and Beat FX (Delay, Echo, Ping Pong, Spiral, Helix, Reverb, Flanger, Phaser, Filter, Triplet Filter, Trans, Roll, Triplet Roll, Mobius). Each of these effects has its own unique characteristics that allow you to add variety and depth to musical compositions and create incredible transitions between tracks.

In addition, the DJM-A9 has an FX Frequency function that allows you to control the frequency at which the effects are applied. This allows the sound to be fine-tuned and tailored to a DJ's unique needs and preferences.
