Phono preamplifier Rega Aria MK3 MM/MC

The latest custom-designed, half-width cabinet houses two completely separate, high-performance phono preamps to give it a fresh new look to match the range. One is fully adjustable, with a special moving coil, and the other is with a moving magnet. Each stage is designed and engineered to maximize the potential of your vinyl system while remaining easy to use and configure.

The Rega Aria is a "fully analog amplifier" with no digital control circuitry. The all-aluminum housing shields the internal circuitry from any stray RF signals. The designers avoided including unnecessary devices, as they interfere with signal transmission and degrade sound quality. The Aria features many innovative design ideas, including a self-tuning servo controller that maintains optimal operation of the MCU input circuit, compensating for any fluctuations in ambient or operating temperature.

Both stages have separate input jacks and input preamp circuits. This made it possible to develop an individual input circuit for each type of cartridge without compromise. Signal switching is carried out at high level and low impedance (via relay), which ensures no signal degradation.
Design and features of the MM cascade

The MM input uses low noise bipolar input transistors, also configured as a composite pair. There are two separate power supplies for each channel, as well as additional power supplies for each of the low noise input circuits. Nichicon FG electrolytic capacitors are used in critical positions in all power supplies. Polypropylene capacitors are used in signal paths and equalization networks. Discrete circuitry is used in all signal paths, providing complete control over the circuit design.
Design and features of the MC cascade

The input uses low-noise FETs (Field Effect Transistors) connected in parallel and configured as a composite pair. The use of FET transistors ensures that there is no bias current in the cartridge coil so as not to disrupt the delicate magnetic geometry of the cartridge. At the MK input, it is possible to select a resistive load from 70 to 400 Ohms and a capacitive load from 1000 to 4200 pF. Input sensitivity can be changed by 6dB using the rear panel.
