The Pro-Ject X8 turntable is a true high-end solution with key technical features borrowed from the Xtension 9 and 10 models. The precision balanced platter is made from a single piece of aluminum and dampened with a TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) insert. The disk rotates on an inverted bearing with ceramic balls and a fluoroplastic thrust pad. To reduce bearing stress, an opposing neodymium magnet pushes the record away from the base and bearing, ensuring smooth, quiet operation for decades to come.
The massive MDF chassis rests on special CNC-machined aluminum legs that are fully adjustable in height. They use TPE damping technology, which very effectively separates the X8 from the surface on which it is mounted. The combination of mass and damping provides a very stable system that isolates the stylus from both airborne and structural vibrations, yet requires little setup and remains stable and properly aligned over time. You hear your music, not the player.
The 9cc EVO carbon tonearm uses inverted gimbal bearings, four stainless steel tips mounted in quality ABEC 7 ball bearings mounted in a C-section to minimize resonance. The low-mass, one-piece carbon fiber tonearm tube is tapered to minimize standing wave vibration. The tonearm wire cable is one-piece, from the cartridge to the 5-pin DIN output, designed to connect both a single-sided and balanced phono stage.
