The clever use of a lightweight solid core with a high-rigidity phenolic resin shell was the basis for the high level of performance achieved in the now iconic original Planar series. The new Planar 3 takes this design philosophy to the next level. The lightweight acrylic laminated plinth, reinforced with a new and improved system of double braces positioned precisely where increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mount and the main hub bearing), forms a structurally sound "tension beam" assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances that introduce unnatural distortion into music. At the same time, a heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise, directly to the spinning plate. Using brackets instead of a solid skin allows the use of double-thickness phenolic resin in these key areas, providing additional mass reduction to the plinth, which directly addresses the problem of mass absorption and unwanted energy transfer.
Tonearm
The RB330 tonearm was designed using the latest 3D CAD and CAM technologies and is the culmination of over 35 years of tonearm design experience. Featuring an all-new bearing housing and an all-new tonearm tube designed using intelligent mass redistribution, this arm has fewer potential resonance points. Exceptional stability and virtually frictionless motion thanks to new precision bearing assemblies ensures you capture more information from your vinyl than ever before.
Frame
Glossy acrylic laminated plinth, more rigid and much improved appearance, ergonomically positioned power switch. Available in three stunning high-gloss finishes: black, white and red.
Double staple technology
Improved 3mm phenolic bottom brace and new phenolic top brace with metallic leather.
Bearing shell
Redesigned brass center hub bearing, improved fit and design to reduce stress on the bearing itself.
Insulation
New and improved foot for increased stability and reduced vibration transmission.
24V motor
New and improved motor control PCB with integration to add Neo power supply for electronic speed shifting and improved anti-vibration circuitry (sold separately). New engine cover pan with built-in cooling.
Dust cover
Supplied as standard/optional - cover - plinth protector - supplied to prevent marks on the plinth and keep it looking its best.
Subplate
Redesigned sub-disc, improved accuracy and increased rigidity.
Plate
New "Optiwhite" float glass with 12mm polished edge - increased precision and stunning appearance.
