Rega Planar 3 Nd5 is an enhanced model of the turntable, developed based on years of experience and an innovative design approach. This turntable is the result of two years of development led by Roy Gandy, the founder of Rega, and replaces the previous iconic RP3 model, which won numerous awards. The new Planar 3 is completely redesigned, keeping only two components from the previous version.
The main innovation of this model is the lightweight acrylic laminated plinth, reinforced with a special double brace system. These braces are positioned between the tonearm and the central bearing, creating a strong structure that minimizes vibrations and unwanted resonances. The overall mass is reduced, which prevents unwanted energy transfer to the vinyl, including motor or bearing noise.
Planar 3 is equipped with the precision RB330 tonearm, created using the latest 3D CAD and CAM technologies. It features a new bearing housing and redistributed mass, ensuring greater stability and minimizing resonance points. This allows the tonearm to extract more information from vinyl records than ever before.
The Nd5 cartridge, included with the turntable, is a product of exceptional craftsmanship. The stylus has a perfect elliptical profile made of synthetic diamond, providing a wider soundstage and more accurate channel balance. The cartridge also features a new generator geometry with parallel coils wound with ultra-fine wire, significantly improving frequency response.
The turntable also features a low-noise 24V motor with improved control and an anti-vibration system. For user convenience, there is an option to connect an additional Neo PSU power supply for speed control.
Planar 3 also comes with a 12mm polished glass platter, new feet for enhanced stability, a dust cover, and an upgraded subplatter.
