The band is also known for their high-profile performances, including a 1972 performance at the Rainbow Theater in London that earned them a Guinness World Record for being the "loudest band on the planet".

During the recording of the album, a number of incredible events took place, including the Montreux casino fire, which is considered one of the legendary stories of rock music. At a Frank Zappa concert at the Montreux Casino, an audience member set off a pyrotechnic device and the casino burned to the ground. This event inspired the creation of one of Deep Purple's most famous hits - "Smoke on the Water".
