Mylène Farmer (real name – Mylène Jeanne Gautier) is a French singer, songwriter, and one of the most successful artists in France. She was born on September 12, 1961, in Pierrefonds, Canada, but later her family moved to the suburbs of Paris. Farmer began her music career in 1984 with the single "Maman a tort" and gained international fame thanks to the album Ainsi soit je... (1988) and the hit "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces". Her song "Désenchantée" from the album L'autre... became a true symbol of her artistic identity. Throughout her career, Mylène experimented with genres – from synth-pop and europop to rock, R&B, and electronic music. In France, she holds the record for the most number-one singles (21), including eight consecutive chart-toppers. Beyond her solo career, Farmer worked with young singer Alizée, for whom she wrote the hit "Moi... Lolita". She also appeared in films, notably Giorgino (1994) and Ghostland (2018). Mylène Farmer is the only artist to receive diamond albums in four consecutive decades, and her compilation Les Mots (2001) remains the best-selling compilation album in French history.

L'autre... is Mylène Farmer’s third studio album, released on April 8, 1991. This release was a milestone in her career, particularly thanks to the hit "Désenchantée", which topped the French charts for nine weeks. The album held the number one spot in France for twenty weeks and became the most successful album of Farmer’s career, entering the list of the best-selling albums in the country's history. Created after her first concert tour and a period of travel and artistic exploration, L'autre... features deeper lyrics and marks a personal transformation – Farmer began opening herself to others and exploring new themes, including human relationships. Artistic influences such as the works of Emil Cioran and museum visits are reflected in both the lyrics and the album’s overall atmosphere. The cover, showing Mylène with a crow on her shoulder – reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry – symbolizes not doom but protection. The album also includes Farmer’s first official duet, the song "Regrets" with Jean-Louis Murat. Thematically, the album continues to explore death, religion, despair, sexuality, and social protest – but in a more personal and open way.
