Nina Simone (Eunice Kathleen Waymon) was an outstanding American singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger, and civil rights activist. Born into a family of eight children in North Carolina, she is known for her diverse musical style, which included classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. She began her career playing piano in a nightclub in Atlantic City and later became known as a jazz vocalist. She recorded over 40 albums, including her debut "Little Girl Blue." Her music and piano playing were inspired by Baroque and classical music, adding expressiveness to her jazz singing.
Pastel Blues is a studio album by American singer Nina Simone, released on October 1, 1965, by Philips Records. The album was recorded in New York City in 1964-1965. It reached number 139 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 8 on the Hot R&B LPs chart. In November 2020, the album was reissued by Verve and Universal Music Enterprises as part of their "audiophile-grade" Acoustic Sounds series.
