The Cardigans are a Swedish rock band formed in 1992 in Jönköping. The lineup includes Peter Svensson (guitar), Magnus Sveningsson (bass), Bengt Lagerberg (drums), Lars-Olof Johansson (keyboards), and Nina Persson (vocals). Their debut album "Emmerdale" (1994) gained popularity in Sweden and Japan. The follow-up "Life" (1995) brought them international recognition. Their global breakthrough came with the hit "Lovefool" from the album "First Band on the Moon" (1996), which featured on the soundtrack for the film Romeo + Juliet. Other notable singles include "Erase/Rewind" and "My Favourite Game" from the album "Gran Turismo" (1998). After several breaks, they released "Long Gone Before Daylight" (2003) and "Super Extra Gravity" (2005). In total, the band has sold over 15 million albums worldwide.

First Band on the Moon is the third studio album by Swedish band The Cardigans, released on 12 August 1996 in Sweden and internationally on 6 September. The album marked a major breakthrough for the group both in their homeland and abroad, particularly in the United States, where it sold around 664,000 copies as of September 2010. The standout hit from the album is "Lovefool", which brought the band worldwide fame. Critics praised the album for returning to the feel of their debut "Emmerdale", with a new lyrical focus on unrequited love and betrayal. Nina Persson’s vocals and Peter Svensson’s arrangements were especially highlighted as the band’s creative core.
