Description

The Cure is an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith has remained the only constant member of the band throughout numerous lineup changes. The Cure first made a name for themselves with their debut album "Three Imaginary Boys" (1979) and several early singles, which propelled the band into the forefront of the emerging post-punk and new wave movements in the UK. Starting with their second album "Seventeen Seconds" (1980), the band embraced a darker style, which, combined with Smith's image, heavily influenced the gothic rock genre and the subculture that later formed around it.

The Head on the Door is the sixth studio album by the English rock band The Cure, released on August 30, 1985, by Fiction Records. The album achieved significant international success, entering the top 75 in the US and the top 20 in several other countries. In the UK, it became the band's most successful album, debuting at number 7 on the charts. The Head on the Door is the first album where all the songs were written solely by lead singer Robert Smith. The album is characterized by its variety of styles and moods, allowing the band to reach a wider audience in both Europe and North America. It also marked the first album with new members: drummer Boris Williams and guitarist Porl Thompson, who became an official member of the band. The music of the album blends elements of various genres, including pop-rock, disco, and flamenco, which helped the band create a unique sound. Songs like "In Between Days" and "Close to Me" became iconic for the band, and the album received high praise from critics, being recognized as one of the best albums of 1985.
