ELAC

ELAC has built on its heritage to transcend modernity. From the beginning, it has earned its reputation for cutting-edge technology, uncompromising build quality, outstanding European design and unrivaled sound. ELAC offers a full range of loudspeakers and bold new electronics that bring music to life like never before. Every product created is characterized by stunning performance, exquisite craftsmanship and unbeatable value. All are characterized by the inimitable ELAC style.

It all began on September 1, 1926, in Kiel, Germany, when Electroacustic GmbH was founded to develop sonar technology and research into the transmission of signals and sounds in air and water. During World War II the company created electroacoustic devices for the German Navy and its number reached 5 thousand people. After the war, the company moved to the production of consumer goods, first sewing machines and then consumer electronics. In addition, the company distributed goods from foreign firms such as Sony, Fisher Electronics and Nakamichi in Germany. In 2016, ELAC acquired the American audio company Audio Alchemy.

ELAC's passion for music and fascination with sound led ELAC to introduce its first consumer audio product, the PW1 record player in 1948. ELAC continued to lead the evolving audio industry with innovative turntables and electronics. In the 1970s and 1980s, every serious music lover had a high quality turntable, and a lucky few owned an ELAC – the backbone of the best sound systems. By 1984, ELAC began developing loudspeakers in conjunction with AXIOM Electroacoustic speaker specialists. A year later came the new 4Pi omnidirectional tweeter, a driver that combined extended range and wide dispersion to bring a true "high end" sound to high-end audio systems. This has turned the world of audio engineering on its head and placed ELAC among the most elite loudspeaker manufacturers. ELAC and innovation go hand in hand, and in 1993 ELAC introduced the JET folding ribbon tweeter. With extended frequency response up to 35 kHz, the JET tweeter proved that a driver with response beyond the limits of human hearing sounds better across the entire range. JET has been continually refined and is now used in both home and automotive applications.
