Arturia KeyStep mk2 is a compact MIDI controller that combines the functions of an expressive keyboard, a polyphonic sequencer, and an arpeggiator. It is designed as the centerpiece of a modern hybrid studio, capable of easily integrating analog synthesizers, Eurorack modular systems, and software instruments (DAW) into a single creative workspace.
_What's new in KeyStep mk2?
The new version builds on the original and adds key modern features. The most noticeable change is the new OLED display with a clickable encoder, providing direct access to all settings directly from the device. However, the main innovations are hidden inside.
At the heart of the device is a 32-note Slimkey keyboard, sensitive to velocity and with aftertouch support, ensuring high playing expression. For intuitive control and quick parameter editing, KeyStep mk2 is equipped with a clickable encoder and RGB feedback. Instead of traditional wheels, it uses responsive touch strips for pitch and modulation, as well as for controlling Gate, Spice, and Dice parameters in real-time.
The controller's creative potential is unlocked through the built-in 8-voice polyphonic sequencer (up to 64 steps) and a multi-mode arpeggiator with 16 pattern types. The device offers generative tools "Mutate", "Spice", and "Dice" for instantly creating unexpected melodic variations and controlled chaos. Chord and Scale modes make it easy to play complex harmonies or stay within a chosen key, ideal for quick idea sketching.
_Full set of connections
KeyStep mk2 is a versatile tool thanks to its extensive set of connections. It is equipped with four CV/Gate outputs (Pitch, Gate, Mod 1, Mod 2), allowing you to control the most complex modular systems. Also on board are full-size 5-pin MIDI In/Out ports, Sync inputs/outputs for synchronizing with vintage devices and drum machines, and an input for a sustain/expression pedal. Connection to a computer and power is provided via a modern USB-C port.
