The ukulele (from the Hawaiian "ukulele" – dancing cockroach) is a four-string plucked musical instrument. It appeared in the 1880s as a development of the braguinha, a miniature guitar from the island of Madeira, related to the Portuguese cavaquinho. The ukulele is common in various Pacific islands but has been associated primarily with Hawaiian music since the tour of Hawaiian music at the 1915 Pacific Exposition in San Francisco. The 4 most common types of ukulele are soprano, concerto, tenor, and baritone.
