The Zoom MSH-6 microphone capsule is an external module compatible with the Zoom H8, H6, H5, and other recorders (F8n, F4, F1, U-44, and Q8). This capsule uses the Mid-Side (MS) recording method, which allows for high precision and flexibility in sound processing.
The MSH-6 has two microphone elements: a unidirectional microphone (Mid), which picks up sound from the center, and a side bidirectional microphone (Side), which picks up signals from the left and right. A key advantage of Mid-Side recording is the ability to adjust the stereo image after recording. This means that you can increase or decrease the width of the stereo image without having to overwrite the material. This flexibility is ideal for motion picture, video, and television projects where sound stage accuracy is critical.
The MS method provides full mono compatibility, making it an excellent choice for stereo recordings that can be played back in mono. This is especially important because some platforms or devices can only play audio in mono format, and MS recording ensures that such recordings will not lose quality when played back.
