Input/Output expander BSS Soundweb London BLU-120

The BSS Soundweb London BLU-120 I/O Expander Chassis is a high-tech audio processor that allows flexible system configuration thanks to its four expansion card slots. Each slot can accommodate one of six available cards: analog inputs or outputs, digital inputs or outputs (AES/EBU, S/PDIF), AEC (Acoustic Echo Cancellation) input card, or a telephone hybrid card. Each card supports up to 4 channels.

The device operates via the BLU Link digital audio bus, capable of transmitting up to 256 channels with low latency and high reliability. It uses standard CAT5e cabling for distances up to 100 meters, or fiber optic media converters for much longer distances — up to 40 km.

Configuration is done using the free HiQnet™ Audio Architect software, offering an intuitive environment with support for logic objects and drag-and-drop design. The unit does not include built-in DSP and is typically used as an expansion device alongside other Soundweb London units.

The front panel features indicators for convenient monitoring of Phantom Power, sync, signal presence, and clipping. There is also a display showing key device information such as name, type, firmware version, IP address, and subnet mask. A bi-directional “locate” function enables quick identification of the device on the network.

The BLU-120 includes 12 control inputs and 6 logic outputs for integration with external control systems via GPIO. Ethernet and RS-232 ports are provided, along with documentation for third-party integration using the Soundweb London Interface Kit.

The BSS BLU-120 complies with EN 54-16 standards, making it suitable for emergency and safety system applications. With its modularity, reliability, and wide integration capabilities, it is ideal for building scalable audio systems in complex installations.
