The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra is an American chamber orchestra founded in 1968 by cellist James Arkatov. Initially created as a platform for local film and record studio musicians to perform classical music, LACO specializes in chamber orchestra-scale works, often focusing on baroque music. Over the years, it has been led by notable music directors such as Neville Marriner, Gerard Schwarz, and Jeffrey Kahane. Currently, Jaime Martín serves as the music director. LACO performs at venues like the Alex Theatre, UCLA's Royce Hall, and Zipper Hall, and is known for its diverse repertoire, including newly commissioned works.
The album Bach: Violin Concertos showcases Hilary Hahn's remarkable performance of Bach's violin concertos, particularly the E major concerto BWV 1042. Recorded in 2004, Hahn's performance is characterized by clarity, precision, and an energetic yet unpretentious style. Her violin tone is distinct and well-contoured, delivering the logical phrasing of the work while maintaining a delicate balance with the orchestra. The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, under Jeffrey Kahane, provides a sensitive and supportive backdrop, allowing Hahn's virtuosity to shine.
The album includes 2 LPs with 12 tracks.
