The Classic Evo is based on the successful EISA award-winning Pro-Ject The Classic. The main improvement is the subplatter, where Pro-Ject used the experience gained in the development of the 175, the Vienna Philharmonic turntable, to make key changes to the Classic Evo. The main bearing uses a system similar to that used in the Vienna Philharmonic Recordplayer. For greater comfort, an electronic speed switch has been integrated. The sub-chassis has been improved over the old Classic, with the Pro-Ject trying to make it heavier and stiffer to reduce resonances. The goal is to isolate the plate and tonearm from the resonances of the motor and main base. The heavy-duty aluminum base plate design uses advanced thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) to optimize resonant performance.
The tonearm tube is made of carbon and aluminium: carbon for stiffness and speed, aluminum for better damping. The bearing has been upgraded to the same type used in the Pro-Ject CC EVO tonearms. It provides frictionless vertical and horizontal movement, ensuring precise tracking throughout the entire playing time of the record. The counterbalance is equipped with a TPE damper, which reduces the amplitude of the resonant frequency of the tonearm cartridge by 50%. As usual, Pro-Ject also offer azimuth and VTA adjustments to suit different cartridges. Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge is installed as standard. Since the tonearm has excellent damping and flexibility, its effective mass can be called medium-heavy, so it is a very good partner for MC cartridges.
