It was the first album after their work on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and one of the band's most commercially successful releases. The first three singles from the album (Tragedy, Too Much Heaven, and Love You Inside Out) reached number one in the United States, cementing the Bee Gees' status as a supergroup. The album topped the charts in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and several European countries, with total sales exceeding 20 million copies. The album's music combines elements of pop, soul, and disco, showcasing the band's unique sound at the peak of their career. Spirits Having Flown also became a symbol of the end of the Bee Gees' golden era before the changes in the music scene of the 1980s.
