Bob Marley and the Wailers is a Jamaican band that played in the styles of ska, rocksteady, and reggae. It was founded in 1963 by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. The band became iconic in the development of reggae music and is known for hits like "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up," and "Get Up, Stand Up." In 1974, Tosh and Wailer left the group due to disagreements with the label and ideological disputes. Marley continued with a new lineup and released seven more albums. The group disbanded after Marley's death in 1981.

Babylon by Bus is a live album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in 1978. Most of the tracks were recorded during performances at Pavillon de Paris over three nights from June 25–27, 1978, during the Kaya Tour, although there are some discrepancies in the track listing. The original release featured a unique cover design: the bus windows on the front cover were cut out, allowing listeners to view one of four scenes on the inner sleeve. The album contains both hits that were played at almost every concert and rarer tracks that were either not played in Paris or not performed during the tour. Critics' reviews were generally positive, with Rolling Stone noting a new, more emotional side of Marley – dreamy, lovesick, and vulnerable, which was just as compelling as his sharp social commentary from earlier albums.
