Bob Marley is a reggae prophet, spiritual voice of the oppressed and a national hero of Jamaica. His work is a profound tale of the struggle for dignity, faith, freedom, and hope. After his death in 1981, the world lost not just an artist, but a thought leader who was able to transform the pain of the people into inspirational music. The album Confrontation, released posthumously in 1983, was the last studio testament to Marley's talent. It contains previously unreleased tracks, demos and singles, complemented by new vocal performances by the I-Threes. The symbolic atmosphere of the album adds to its power, from the struggle-filled lyrics to the cover, which depicts Marley as St. George conquering the dragon, Babylon.
The Wailers, the band that accompanied Bob Marley during the main stage of his career, became an integral part of his legend. Founded in 1963, they have become a true voice of indigenous Jamaican culture. In Confrontation, they not only preserved the original sound of the songs, but also supplemented them with live energy, which makes this album complete, despite the fact that it was assembled after the death of the frontman. Complex rhythmic parts, spiritual harmonies, inherent in the style of the best Wailers' releases, create an organic musical fabric of the album.
Confrontation is not just a posthumous compilation, but an important and deep final chord in Bob Marley's discography. It is a musical message about unity, dignity, spirituality and the endless struggle for truth. Here lives a voice that does not stop even after death.
