Buddy Guy (George "Buddy" Guy; born July 30, 1936) is an American blues guitarist and singer, a prominent exponent of Chicago blues. His work has influenced generations of guitarists, including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., and John Mayer. In the 1960s, Guy played as a session guitarist at Chess Records in Muddy Waters' band and began a musical partnership with harmonica virtuoso Junior Wells. He has won eight Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Medal of Arts, and the Kennedy Center Honors, and in 2023, Rolling Stone ranked him the 27th greatest guitarist of all time.
This Is Buddy Guy! is a vivid live album recorded and released in 1968 on Vanguard Records. The performance took place at the New Orleans House in Berkeley, California, showcasing Guy’s guitar prowess and mastery of various blues styles. The album includes both original compositions and classic hits, such as "Knock on Wood" and "I Had A Dream Last Night". The newly remastered edition has been pressed on 180-gram vinyl in a replica tip-on jacket, allowing listeners to enjoy the full dynamics and energy of the live performance.
