Charlie Parker – American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer, known by the nicknames "Bird" or "Yardbird." He was a key figure in the development of bebop, a style of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and complex harmonies. Parker was a virtuoso alto saxophonist who introduced revolutionary rhythmic and harmonic ideas, and he became an icon of the hipster subculture and Beat Generation, presenting the jazz musician as an intellectual and artist.
Album Ornithology: The Best of Bird – a 2024 compilation showcasing Charlie Parker's most iconic recordings from 1945 to 1953 on Craft Recordings. The album features 11 tracks, including legendary pieces "Ko-Ko," "Billie's Bounce," and "Groovin' High," serving as an excellent introduction to Parker's work. The title references his famous nickname "Bird," and the back of the newly designed sleeve includes an essay by Grammy-winning writer Ashley Kahn.
