Chet Baker (Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker Jr.; December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) is an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist, known for major innovations in cool jazz, earning him the nickname "Prince of Cool." Baker gained wide attention and critical acclaim in the 1950s, particularly for albums featuring his vocals, including Chet Baker Sings (1954) and It Could Happen to You (1958). Jazz historian Dave Gelly described Baker's early career as "James Dean, Sinatra, and Bix rolled into one."
Chet Baker Quartet is a vivid example of Baker's early work, recorded on October 24, 1955, at Studio Pathe Magellan, Paris. The album demonstrates both lightness and depth of performance: Baker's melancholic trumpet combined with the quartet's refined arrangements creates an intimate, warm, and melodic atmosphere typical of 1950s cool jazz. The 2024 vinyl reissue in LP, Remastered, and Mono format allows listeners to enjoy the full palette of the classic recording and immerse themselves in delicate improvisations and sophisticated playing.
