Description

Chet Baker (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist, known as the "Prince of Cool." He made significant contributions to cool jazz, gaining popularity in the 1950s with vocal albums such as Chet Baker Sings (1954) and It Could Happen to You (1958). Baker received critical acclaim for his unique style, blending elements of James Dean, Frank Sinatra, and Bix Beiderbecke. Despite struggles with drugs and legal issues, he experienced a career resurgence in the 1970s and 1980s.

Chet Baker Sings and Plays (subtitled With Bud Shank, Russ Freeman and Strings) is an album by jazz trumpeter Chet Baker, recorded in 1955 for Barclay Records and released on the Pacific Jazz label. The album combines Baker's performances as both vocalist and trumpeter, featuring a quartet with pianist Russ Freeman and an expanded sextet including string instruments and Bud Shank on flute. This work cemented Baker's image as a West Coast cool jazz icon of the 1950s and a captivating jazz performer.

The album contains 10 tracks.
