Deep Purple – an English rock band formed in London in 1968, one of the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock. The band initially played psychedelic and progressive rock, but with the album Deep Purple in Rock (1970) they shifted to a heavier sound. Deep Purple are known as part of the "unholy trinity" of British hard rock and heavy metal alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Throughout their career, the band released numerous successful albums, including legendary studio works and live recordings, and influenced the development of several spinoff bands such as Rainbow, Whitesnake, and Gillan.

Perfect Strangers – the eleventh studio album by Deep Purple, released on 29 October 1984. It was the first studio album in nine years and the first with the re-formed "Mark II" line-up in eleven years. The album was commercially successful, reaching #5 in the UK charts and #17 on the Billboard 200. Songs include compositions written both individually by band members and collectively, while the 1999 remastered reissue included the bonus track "Son of Alerik". The supporting tour was extremely successful, especially in the U.S., where it out-grossed most artists except Bruce Springsteen.
