Dire Straits is a legendary British rock band founded in 1977 in London by Mark Knopfler, David Knopfler, John Ilsley and Peaky Blinders. With a unique style that combined elements of country, folk, blues rock, and jazz, they created a melodic sound that stood in stark contrast to the energetic punk rock of the late 70s. Their debut single “Sultans of Swing” brought the band instant success, and subsequent hits like “Money for Nothing,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Walk of Life” cemented their status as one of the most successful British rock bands. Over the course of their career, Dire Straits have sold over 100 million records, received numerous music awards, including four Grammy Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Making Movies is the third studio album by Dire Straits, released on October 17, 1980 via Vertigo Records, Warner Bros. Records and Mercury Records. This album marked a new stage in the band's work: the music became even more emotional and cinematic, which is reflected in both the sound and lyrics. The most famous tracks from the album are “Romeo and Juliet”, which reached number 8 in the UK charts, and “Tunnel of Love”, which was later featured in the movie An Officer and a Gentleman. Making Movies reached #4 in the UK, #19 in the US, and topped the charts in Italy and Norway. The album was certified platinum in the US and double platinum in the UK, cementing Dire Straits' status as one of the leading bands in the world rock scene.
