The One is the twentieth studio album by British singer Elton John, released on June 22, 1992. The album was recorded at the Guillaume Tell Studio in Paris, produced by Chris Thomas and managed by John Reid. The cover art was designed by Gianni Versace and dedicated to Vance Buck. The album spent three weeks at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, never reaching No. 1, as it was held off the top spot by Lionel Richie's "Back to Front" compilation. However, it became John's best-selling album in the US since 1976 and was certified double platinum in the US by the RIAA. It also became John's only studio album to reach No. 1 in Germany. Eric Clapton and David Gilmour contributed to the album, along with longtime drummer Nigel Olsson and backing vocalist Kiki Dee. The One marked John's first album project after his rehabilitation from addictions, as well as bulimia in 1990. On this album, he returned to playing acoustic piano, replacing the Roland RD-1000 digital piano used on his previous albums.
