Description

Frank Sinatra is an iconic voice of the twentieth century, one of the most influential American performers whose work spans half a century of musical history. His “velvety” timbre, exquisite phrasing, and emotional depth made him a symbol of romance and elegance. Sinatra began in the swing era, experienced ups and downs, won an Oscar for acting, but music remained his most important stage. In the 1950s, he made an incredible comeback, recording groundbreaking albums for Capitol Records that became classics of the genre.

In the Wee Small Hours, released in 1955, is one of the first “concept” albums in the history of popular music. His songs form a coherent emotional story about loss, loneliness, and nighttime reflections. Sinatra sings with a quiet tenderness, as if talking alone with the listener's heartache. Nelson Riddle's arrangements are minimalistic and deeply atmospheric – slow orchestral pulsations, muted trumpets and gentle piano give each composition a cinematic mood. The cover art, depicting a lonely Sinatra under the dim light of a night city, accurately conveys the spirit of the album. This release not only cemented the singer's creative renaissance, but also brought the pop album genre to a new artistic level.
