Iggy Pop is a legendary figure of American rock, one of the most influential representatives of the alternative scene, who is rightly called the “godfather of punk rock”. His onstage expression, unbridled energy and rebellious nature laid the foundation for numerous genres, including grunge and post-punk. Starting his career as the frontman of The Stooges, Iggy formed a radical musical aesthetic that opposed the mainstream. His work is a constant balancing act between chaos and sophistication, and the artist himself is a symbol of the eternal struggle against conformity. In the 1970s, he went through a deep crisis, but it was this period that marked the beginning of a new, more experimental stage for him.

The Idiot album, released in 1977, was Pop's first solo release after the breakup of The Stooges and the result of a creative collaboration with David Bowie. Recorded in a French chateau and finished in Munich, the album captured the dark European atmosphere and industrial sound that would later inspire many goth and post-punk bands. Bowie not only produced the release, but also actually created its musical canvas, and Pop responded with sincere, sometimes eerie lyrics. Such songs as “Nightclubbing”, “Funtime” and “Mass Production” demonstrate the rejection of the Stooges' aggressive sound in favor of a cold, mechanical sound. At the same time, the song “China Girl” will get a new life thanks to Bowie in 1983. The Idiot was not only the beginning of a new chapter in Pop's career, but also an important milestone in the history of all alternative music.
