Description

John Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) — American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer, one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Coltrane was born and raised in North Carolina and moved to Philadelphia after high school to study music. Early in his career, he played in bebop and hard bop styles. Coltrane led over fifty recording sessions and appeared on many albums by other musicians, including Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. Over time, his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension, as exemplified on his most famous album A Love Supreme (1965).

Ballads — a jazz album released in January 1963 by Impulse! Records. Recorded in December 1961 and 1962, the album features pieces the quartet performed without prior rehearsals, relying solely on music-store sheet music. Each track was recorded in one take, except "All or Nothing at All". The album is noted for its calm, lyrical sound and showcases the quartet's mastery in performing ballads. In 2008, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The album contains 8 tracks.

Side A:
  • A1. Say It (Over And Over Again)
  • A2. You Don't Know What Love Is
  • A3. Too Young To Go Steady
  • A4. All Or Nothing At All
Side B:
  • B1. I Wish I Knew
  • B2. What's New
  • B3. It's Easy To Remember
  • B4. Nancy (With The Laughing Face)
