Mark Freuder Knopfler is a British musician born on August 12, 1949, in Glasgow. He became famous as the lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits, which existed from 1977 to 1995. After the band disbanded, Mark began his solo career and has released ten solo albums. Mark Knopfler is considered one of the greatest guitarists in the world, known for his virtuoso playing. He has won four Grammy Awards, as well as many other honors, including the Ivor Novello Award and three honorary doctorate degrees. In 2018, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Dire Straits.
Mark Knopfler's mini-album The Boy, released exclusively for Record Store Day 2024, is a special gift for his fans. The 12-inch vinyl features four new tracks, all connected by a common theme – boxing booths at traveling fairs. These booths were popular in the UK during the 1950s and early 1960s. Mark draws inspiration from his childhood memories of these fairs, especially those held annually at Newcastle Town Moor.
