Megadeth is an American thrash metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine. The group is part of the “big four” of thrash metal alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. They are known for their complex guitar work, fast rhythms, and lyrics exploring themes of war, politics, religion, death, and personal experiences. Their debut album, *Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!*, was released in 1985, and their breakthrough came with *Peace Sells... but Who’s Buying?* in 1986. Megadeth went on to release several platinum albums, including *Rust in Peace* and *Countdown to Extinction*. Over the years, the band’s lineup has changed frequently, with Mustaine remaining the constant leader. In 2017, Megadeth won their first Grammy Award for the song “Dystopia.” Their mascot, Vic Rattlehead, appears regularly on album covers and live performances. To date, Megadeth has sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! is the sixteenth studio album by American thrash metal band Megadeth, released on September 2, 2022, on frontman Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft label. It is the first Megadeth album to feature drummer Dirk Verbeuren, the last with guitarist Kiko Loureiro, and the first studio release in six years since *Dystopia* (2016), marking the longest gap between albums in the band’s history. Work began in 2019 but was delayed due to Mustaine’s throat cancer diagnosis and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, bassist David Ellefson was dismissed, and his parts were re-recorded by Testament’s Steve Di Giorgio. After completion, James LoMenzo rejoined the band. The album received positive reviews, debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and became the band’s most successful international release. The song “We’ll Be Back” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
