Nelly Furtado is a Canadian singer, songwriter, producer, and actress of Portuguese descent who gained worldwide popularity for her unique blend of pop with folk, hip-hop, and global rhythms. Her career skyrocketed in the early 2000s with the release of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, known for its light sound, original lyrics, and unconventional approach to pop music. The success of her early singles, especially “I'm Like a Bird,” brought her international fame, awards, and a place among the brightest artists of her generation. After her debut, Furtado actively toured, performed at major music events, and later collaborated with notable producers like Timbaland.
7 is the seventh studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, released on September 20, 2024, through Nelstar Entertainment and 21 Entertainment Group. It is her first album after a seven-year hiatus. The release was preceded by the singles “Love Bites” featuring Tove Lo and SG Lewis, and “Corazón” featuring Bomba Estéreo. The album also features collaborations with Charlotte Day Wilson, Dom Dolla, WondaGurl, and T-Minus. Furtado revealed that she created hundreds of tracks over the years, and the final 14 songs were chosen intuitively, as her ADHD makes it difficult to organize her creativity in a traditional way. According to her, the album is more like “a collection of portals for escape and immersion,” and the title “7” reflects both its place in her discography and the number of years since her last release.
