? and the Mysterians (Question Mark and the Mysterians) is an American garage rock band from Michigan, active in the 1960s. Their sound was defined by energetic organ lines and the distinctive vocals of Rudy Martínez (known by the stage name Question Mark). Thanks to their style and image, the band is considered one of the first pioneers of punk rock. They are best known for the song "96 Tears," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966.
96 Tears is the debut studio album by ? and the Mysterians, released in 1966. The album reached number 66 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, and the single "96 Tears" became a major hit, remaining at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for fifteen weeks. The record features raw garage rock sound and is considered a landmark work in the genre, cementing the band's status as a cult "one-hit wonder."
