The Beatles are a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The group consisted of John Lennon (vocals, guitar), Paul McCartney (vocals, bass guitar), George Harrison (vocals, guitar), and Ringo Starr (drums). The Beatles became one of the most successful and influential music groups in history. They sold over 600 million records worldwide, setting a record for any artist. 1962–1966 (also known as the "Red Album") is a compilation album of songs by The Beatles, covering the years 1962 to 1966. It was released in 1973 alongside the companion compilation 1967–1970 ("Blue Album"). In the United Kingdom, the record reached number three on the charts, while in the United States, it topped the Cash Box chart and reached number three on the Billboard chart. The original release included only songs written by Lennon and McCartney, with no George Harrison compositions. In 1993, the album was re-released on compact discs, again reaching number three in the UK charts. In 2023, a deluxe expanded version was released, featuring new remixes and additional tracks. The album cover features photographs taken by Angus McBean in 1963 and 1969, along with images from the 1968 "Mad Day Out" photo session.
