The Cure is an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith has remained the band's only constant member throughout its numerous lineup changes. The Cure first gained attention with their debut album “Three Imaginary Boys” (1979) and several early singles that placed them at the forefront of the emerging post-punk and new wave scenes in the UK. Starting with their second album “Seventeen Seconds” (1980), the band adopted a darker style that, along with Smith’s image, significantly influenced the gothic rock genre and the subculture that later formed around it.

Pornography is the fourth studio album by British band The Cure, released on 3 May 1982 by Fiction Records. Created during a period of emotional turmoil for frontman Robert Smith, the album marked the peak of the band’s dark creative phase. The recording process was plagued by internal conflict, substance abuse, and depression among the members. Musically, "Pornography" is known for its oppressive atmosphere, intense and unsettling sound, and lyrics exploring despair and inner pain. Although it received mixed reviews upon release, the album later achieved cult status and is now regarded as one of the defining works of the gothic rock genre.
