The Electro-Voice PL-24S is a professional-grade supercardioid dynamic vocal microphone designed to capture vocal character in live sound. Featuring an on/off switch and balanced frequency response, the PL24S microphone delivers robust, articulate audio performance that delivers complete vocal clarity in any live audio environment. The improved isolation provided by the supercardioid polar pattern provides excellent protection against system feedback and crosstalk from other nearby sound sources. The result is higher gain before feedback and a cleaner stage mix. Although the PL-24S is designed as a vocal microphone for music and spoken word, it is also well suited for use as an instrument or amplifier microphone where a dynamic element capsule is desired.
Like most directional microphones, the PL-24S's low-frequency response varies depending on the distance from the sound source. Known as the “proximity effect,” a microphone's low-frequency response increases as the operating distance from the microphone decreases. This "bass boost" is only audible when operating closer than 6 inches. Using this microphone at a distance greater than 6 inches ensures minimal sound coloration due to proximity effects. The proximity effect can be used to your advantage when recording a thin voice. As the vocalist's working distance from the microphone decreases, the sound of low frequencies increases.
