More than 30 years have passed since the release of Yamaha's first digital mixer, the DMP7, and during that time the professional audio industry has come a long way in terms of technological development and innovation, which has greatly influenced the style of mixing and recording sound.
The DM7 series mixers represent a major step forward in this evolutionary process in terms of form, function, and flexibility. With their intuitive user interface, compact design and a wide range of powerful features, they outperform other mixers in their class in a variety of audio environments. From broadcast, streaming, and music production to live hybrid events and concert performances, the advanced capabilities of the DM7 series set a new standard in performance and workflows while remaining true to Yamaha's "natural sound" acoustic tradition. In a time of change, the DM7 will keep you at the forefront with a user experience that surpasses anything in its class and sonic capabilities that exceed the expectations of audiences and engineers alike.
Design and functionality
The DM7 series features a new user interface that is simpler and more efficient while retaining the characteristics of Yamaha consoles. It is equipped with large touchscreens that combine multi-touch control with precise control using physical screen encoders and Yamaha's famous "touch and turn" knobs. A new advanced Selected Channel view allows quick access to individual channel parameters, giving the engineer control over what he needs. There's also an analog mixer-style screen.
New to the DM7 series is a seven-inch service screen that displays important information and functions such as scene lists, user keys, and levels. In addition, a histogram display has been added to the input meters, making it easier to control the preamplifier levels.
Inputs and outputs
The Yamaha DM7 digital mixer is equipped with a wide range of inputs and outputs, making it quite versatile for a variety of audio applications.
It has 32 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs, allowing you to connect many audio sources at the same time. Also, it has AES/EBU outputs and the ability to connect to a network using Ethernet.
The mixer is equipped with an expansion slot (PY Slot) for additional equipment, a USB interface for data storage devices, and a connection to a computer, as well as input and output for Word Clock, which allows you to synchronize sound devices.
In terms of control and communication, there are five GPI (General Purpose Interface) inputs and outputs for external devices, as well as USB TO HOST, USB TO DEVICE, and Ethernet connectivity.
The mixer does not have a separate MIDI output and input, but it supports the MIDI protocol via the USB TO HOST connection.
Powerful Channel Strip
The DM7 Series Channel Strip is equipped with numerous advanced features for convenient and intuitive sound creation. In addition to the channel EQ inherited from the RIVAGE PM, the new FET Limiter and Diode Bridge Compressor functions expand dynamics control, and the History function, together with existing compressors and gates, allows for more precise dynamics tuning than ever before. The Mix Balance function is another new feature that allows you to easily mix the original sound with the compressed sound and apply parallel compression.
The DM7 series also features a Dan Dugan automatic mixer with support for up to 64 channels. Thanks to a collaboration with Dan Dugan Sound Design, known for their proprietary auto-mixer algorithm for microphones, auto-mixer functionality is available from the channel strip without the need for EQ RACK resources. Input meters now include a histogram display to help adjust audio levels.
Expansion
The Yamaha DM7 includes the use of special connectors to connect to other Dante audio network devices, such as input/output (I/O) devices such as the Rio3224-D2. RJ-45 connectors are used for connection, which are compatible with Neutrik EtherCON CAT5e connectors. They support up to 144 inputs and 144 outputs with audio quality of 96 kHz/24 or 32 bits or 48 kHz/24 or 32 bits.
This allows you to expand the functionality and power of the Yamaha DM7 Compact, providing the ability to connect to a larger volume of audio interfaces and devices to create complex audio systems.
Processing plugins and effects
The DM7 series is equipped with a wide range of plug-ins to meet various needs and applications. These include the VCM models of the famous Portico 5033 equalizer and the Portico 5043 compressor/limiter from Rupert Neve Designs, developed in close collaboration with this company. The set also includes original Yamaha plug-ins such as DaNSe (Dynamic Noise Reduction) and Dynamic EQ, which are widely known among sound engineers.
FX RACK contains 43 types of high-end effects, including the new REV HD and REV R3 effects, which inspire deeper and more creative sound reproduction.
Complete set
The DM7 comes with two special software packages: the Broadcast Package and the Theater Package. The Broadcast Package contains features that make mixing easier, including support for 5.1 Surround, Mix Minus, Audio Follow Video, and loudness metering. The Theater Package includes a DCA script grid, AFC picture control, and other features aimed at the needs of theater applications.
The DM7 Compact also comes with a software package that includes VST Rack Elements, a host software that allows engineers to create their own effects chains, as well as Steinberg Nuendo Live DAW software, specially optimized for live recording.
Dimensions
The dimensions of the Yamaha DM7 digital mixer are 793 mm in width, 324 mm in height and 564 mm in depth. The weight of the mixer is 23.5 kg.
Yamaha DM7 is a high-quality digital mixer distinguished by reliable sound quality, advanced functionality, and convenient design. It is ideal for a variety of audio applications, from live performances and concerts to studio mixing and sound processing.
The DM7 impresses with its high-quality hardware and extensive set of functions that allow engineers and sound engineers to create the perfect sound in any scenario.
With a built-in Dante interface, the DM7 is easy to install and integrate with other audio devices, making it an excellent choice for professional audio systems. The mixer comes with additional software that expands its use and allows sound engineers to achieve even greater levels of creativity and control.
