Drawing on Audio-Technica's analog heritage and over 50 years of Japanese audio design expertise, the Audio-Technica AT-LP5X features updated technology while maintaining the modern style and award-winning performance of its AT-LP5 predecessor. The LP5X retains the J-shaped tonearm, a design inspired by the classic Audio-Technica models of the 1960s and 70s, and features a metal gimbal and precision bearings to reduce tracking errors. The tonearm is equipped with an adjustable counterweight and anti-skating control, and is also equipped with a lightweight (9.3 g) AT-HS6 cartridge and a black AT-VM95E Dual Moving Magnet stereo cartridge.
The Audio-Technica AT-LP5X turntable is constructed of anti-vibration materials with metal inserts in a heavy-duty chassis designed to limit low-frequency acoustic feedback. Its precision-machined cast aluminum rim is driven by a low-noise direct drive motor that delivers stable axle rotation at 33-1/3, 45 and 78 RPM. A 5mm thick rubber damping mat is placed on top of the plate, which isolates low frequency feedback and provides high surface stability for all LP formats.
The AT-LP5X features a built-in MM/MC switchable phono/line preamp, allowing it to be connected directly to a computer, home stereo system, powered speaker system, or other components that do not have a dedicated turntable input. A choice of MM/MC cartridges makes it easy to upgrade to moving coil with additional hardware. The player is also equipped with a USB output for direct connection to a computer.
