Herbie Hancock is an outstanding American jazz musician, composer, and bandleader, born on April 12, 1940, in Chicago. He began his musical career as part of Donald Byrd's group and later joined Miles Davis' quintet, where he reshaped the role of the rhythm section in jazz. In the 1970s, Hancock experimented with jazz fusion, funk, and electronic music, actively using synthesizers. Among his well-known compositions are "Cantaloupe Island," "Watermelon Man," "Maiden Voyage," and "Chameleon." Hancock has received 14 Grammy Awards and an Oscar for Best Original Score for the film "Round Midnight."
Maiden Voyage is Herbie Hancock's fifth studio album, released in 1966, though it was recorded in 1965. The album features renowned musicians such as George Coleman, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams.
